BELCARO PAINT'S ROOTS
Belcaro Paint & Decorating Center was founded in 1986 by wife and husband team, Cindy and John Harris. Cindy had been a school teacher and worked as a dental assistant. She received her degree in business. John was a paint chemist for Benjamin Moore & Co. for the previous 14 years.
The business began on Colorado Blvd., just across the street from the Belcaro neighborhood, thus the name. This location worked very well for 15 years until their landlord sold the property, forcing a relocation. In 2000 Cindy and John purchased a building on the well traveled Leetsdale Drive and moved the business there a year later.
Belcaro Paint has been a very successful Benjamin Moore Paint dealer since 1986, and until the purchase of their second store, was the largest single store Benjamin Moore Paint dealer west of the Mississippi River. Other major paint lines proudly sold at Belcaro Paint include C2 Paint (The Coatings Alliance), and Pratt & Lambert Paints.
In 2003, son Troy Harris joined the business and is presently the company's outside salesman. The second store, purchased in 2005 in Littleton Colorado, provided the company with the much needed warehouse space as well as an excellent location for a paint store, 8 miles to the south-west of the original store.
In 1995 Belcaro Paint made a decision to package small quantities of paint in all of the colors in the paint lines they carried at that time, including Benjamin Moore, Pratt & Lambert, Devoe and Ralph Lauren (the last two brands no longer carried). Belcaro Paint was the first company in North America to package these 1-1/2 ounce bottles of actual paint for their customer's convenience during the color selection process. The introduction of these Wet Paint Testers has given Belcaro Paint local, state and national recognition for an innovative idea that would eventually encourage the paint industry to follow suit. By using these paint testers, the reduction in the quantity of paint needed to assist in the color selection process, would considerably reduce the quantity of unwanted waste paint, otherwise entering the country's waste stream. Today, with these tester samples, Belcaro Paint has moved the entire paint industry to a more responsible approach to the color selection process, saving our environment of more pollutants while helping folks in search of the "right color" find that color more economically and more efficiently.
