Psychologists claim there are 10 million different colors the human eye can discern. The average paint store may have 2 or 3 thousand colors available in the paint brands it sells. It is very common for folks to go from one paint store to another, looking for just the right color, and never find the pigment of their imagination. If you are one who has trouble with finding colors you like, and are a “hands on” type of person, I have a suggestion.

Let’s say that you have purchased a color that isn’t quite what you want. Go look through your basement stash of unwanted paint (still fluid, of course) and see what you already have. Work with small amounts of paint. If your targeted color is too dark, add some white or really light paint. If it is too light, add something darker. If you do not have any of the color you think you need to add, we have about 6,000 little inexpensive tester bottles that you can use to keep blending until you get the color you have not been able to find in any paint store. Be sure to allow a sample of the paint to dry each time before you adjust it. Do not try to keep track of what you blended to create this unique color.

When you have come up with your desired color bring it to us and ask us to match this color in a quart of paint in the product of your choice. Apply the quart in the right room and watch the color at various times of the day and night to be sure it is really the right color for you. We can make more of that special color later. The hardest part of this whole process is that, since you have created a one of a kind color…you need to give it a name.

Good luck and let us know if we may help.
