There are always new products being developed for our industry, some good and some not so good. One of the ways we evaluate a new product is to show it to the Painting Contractor. If the painter grabs it and runs with it, that is a pretty good indication the product is worth carrying in our stores. Here are some new products we have decided to carry in at least one of our stores. Let us know if you have heard of any new paint related product that grab your interest. If it is great, I want to offer it to all our customers.

Custom Loaded Spray Cans

Effective August 15, 2009, At our Littleton Store, we will offer you spray cans of the paint you buy from us...either in your latex or your oil paint. When you are painting a wall, there may be some object that would be hard to brush or roll, like the air duct covers or your louvered closet doors. Maybe you want a spray can just for touching up the wall. Whatever the reason you might need to have a spray can of the paint you are using, we can now put it in a spray can. If our Littleton store confirms that there is sufficient interest, we will be adding this product and service at our Denver store. The price per spray can is $9.99 if we load the paint with a can just purchased. The cost to load paint you previously purchased is $13.99, to cover the cost of straining the paint you bring in, so any foreign material will not block the spray nozzle.

Spring Powered Nail Set

One of the small tasks a painter meets in the process of painting some surfaces is the need to "set" nails which have worked their way from under the surface. The old way of setting a nail is to put a small punch on the nail head and tapping it with a hammer until the nail head is below the surface, or is "set". Our new product, available at both stores is a nifty punch that has a spring attached. To set a nail, you simply hold the punch on the head of the nail, pull the other end towards you with the other hand, expanding the spring, and then releasing the end you pull away. When the spring snaps back, 3,500 pounds per square inch of pressure drive the nail deeper into the surface. The beauty of this cool tool is that the painter doesn't need to carry around a hammer and a nail set. The spring tool retails for $15.79 and is no bigger than a ballpoint pen so easily fits near by in work clothes. Pretty neat!!

Liquid Masking

If you have a bunch of windows to paint you do not want the paint on the glass. You have 3 options...Freehand paint and hope you are steady enough to keep the paint off the glass, use masking tape on the glass, or...you can brush on our H20 Liquid Mask. This Liquid Mask is brushed on both the wood and the glass. After painting, the Liquid Mask easily peels off the glass. Big time saver and available at both stores. Gallons retail for $60.99 and quarts retail for $22.99.

Frog Tape

That is the name of a green tape we have at both stores, which has a clever feature. Embedded in this tape is a "magic" powder which, in contact with the water in latex paint, immediately gels and provides a tight seal along the tape's edges. Unless the surface you are taping is textured, the latex paint will not seep under the tape. Available in 1", 1.5" and 2". The 1" retails at $5.99 per roll.

Zero VOC Paint

Just this year, Benjamin Moore has just come out with two interior products that have ZERO VOCs, and really have no odor. Your family will really appreciate coming home to their freshly painted house that doesn't smell like a chemical factory. The products are called "Natura", available at our Denver store, and "ben" available at our Littleton store. Also, in both these products are some new, beautiful colors that are not available in any other products.

Surface Temperature Thermometer

This is a small self adhesive strip of plastic, containing liquid crystals, that show you if the temperature of a surface is either too hot or too cold to paint. Painting a surface at the wrong temperature will cause problems that you can learn about by clicking here. This reusable product is available at both stores and sells for $2.99. A small price to pay to be sure you don't damage your paint.

Paint Can Drip Tray

This gadget is pretty simple. It is a disposable, yet reusable plastic tray that has been molded to allow either a quart or a gallon paint can to snap into it as a base or bottom that moves with you as you move the paint can. The idea is that any drips are captured in the plastic tray, and are not left on your floor, carpet or counter. Available at both stores for $3.19.

Caulk (or Grout) in Any Color

Here is one of my favorites...maybe because a chemist friend of mine developed it. This is a tube of clear caulk, which has an empty reservoir inside the tube. You inject (syringe is included for doing this) a couple of ounces of the latex paint you are using (or you can use a paint tester in over 6,000 colors we already have) into the tube of caulk. You attach the "mixing nozzle" to the tube, put it in your caulking gun and squeeze the trigger. The result is caulk in the color you injected. Pretty neat, huh? Also, you have the choice of smooth caulk or you can choose the textured caulk that looks like tile grout. The tile installers are our best customer for this one. Available at both store. Retailed at $16.99 per tube, if you can get the color you want in one step it is well worth it.

Waste Paint Harderner

We get several calls each week from customers who want to know how to get rid of unwanted paint. We have a small bag of a material that will turn your latex paint into a rock. In this condition your latex paint may properly disposed of in your normal trash. Available at both stores for $3.09 per bag.
