John Sez:
By John Harris, Belcaro Paint, Paint Chemist
Of all the procedures that pertain to redecorating, our customer’s least favorite is wallpaper removal. In the store we have devoted quite a bit of time explaining the steps involved to accomplish this task. Just recently we have brought in a new product that helps both our customers and ourselves when wallpaper removal is the subject. With this product you can forget using the messy, difficult to use steamers, and get the job done in much less time than you would imagine.
The product is called “The Stripper”…a small box (kit) that not only has new tools to use, but also includes a step-by-step DVD discussion of the least stressful procedure for getting the wallpaper off. The tools include enough chemical concentrate to strip approximately two average size rooms, a wallpaper shaver, a 3-in 1 scrubber/squeegee/sander and special sandpaper. With this kit you will learn all the tricks of the trade. In addition to The Stripper kit you will need a few other items: a garden sprayer or paint roller, a plastic drop cloth, a roll of good quality 2” masking tape, an extension pole (broom handle), a utility knife, a 2” putty knife, and some goggles. If you would like a preview of this product you can see the answers to the 15 most frequently wallpaper removal asked questions at www.wallpaperremoval.com.
Whether you use The Stripper or another method of removing wallpaper, we at Belcaro Paint strongly recommend, once all the wallpaper is removed and before you paint, that you use our very low odor alkyd (another word for oil base), fast dry primer. An ordinary latex primer is not recommended as the water in the latex primer could reactivate any residual wallpaper paste on the wall and cause peeling of the final paint.
